Research synopsis:

Human papillomaviruses - a large group of double-stranded, non-enveloped DNA viruses in the Papillomaviridae family - are implicated in the pathogenesis of a variety of cancers, including cervical, anogenital, head and neck, and cutaneous cancers. I am interested in examining novel mechanisms by which HPV E6 and E7, known oncoproteins, usurp host signaling machinery to create cell-intrinsic and microenvironmental conditions permissive to carcinogenesis.
