Research synopsis:

Cryptosporidium, an apicomplexan parasite, is a cause of debilitating gastrointestinal infection in children and immunosuppressed individuals. The growing prevalence of cryptosporidiosis in recent years has brought attention to the need for drug and vaccine development. At the Cummings School, I study the biology and the host immune response to Cryptosporidium parasites. In particular, I examine the alpaca immune response in search for the novel surface and secretome epitopes of Cryptosporidium sporozoites as potential drug/vaccine targets. Additionally, I work on the development of methods for cryopreservation of Cryptosporidium oocysts.
