Research synopsis:

My laboratory is interested in looking at the ClpP protease in relation to multi-drug or antibiotic tolerance seen in relapsing chronic infections. ClpP belongs to the family of serene proteases that are conserved in a number of bacteria and some inhibitors for the ClpP1 enzyme of M. tuberculosis have been identified. We are searching for ClpP inhibitors of gram negative species, particularly Acinetobacter baumannii. Our aim is to see if we could first, block the ability of A. baumannii to enter the persistent state and also determine whether or not this activity would enhance the effectiveness of standard antibiotics.
