Research synopsis:

Psoriasis (Ps) is characterized by keratinocyte proliferation and chronic inflammation driven primarily by high TNF and IL-17. Ps plaques contain increased number of mast cells (MCs), which contribute to Ps and other inflammatory disorders. It was thought that IL-17 derives from T-cells, but recent evidence indicates that MCs are the only cells expressing IL-17 in rheumatoid arthritis joints and in psoriatic skin. Therefore, I am investigating the ability of various cytokines and neuropepties to stimulate MC release of IL-17 and how this can be inhibited.
